Let’s be real—“stay in the flow” sounds like something we all want to do, but when you’re caught in the chaos of daily life (laundry piles, unread emails, emotional swirlstorms, and all), it can feel more like a pipe dream than a soul practice.
But here’s what I’ve learned on the road—literally and spiritually: Flow isn’t something we chase. It’s something we attune to. And it doesn’t always show up looking the way we think it will.
I was on a road trip recently, soaking up the freedom of the open road, and I caught myself making choices that weren’t really mine.
I thought: Where would my best friend go? What would someone else want to do if they had this opportunity?
So, I rolled into Santa Cruz because I knew she’d love it. And it was… fine. But not for me. It was crowded, chaotic, parking was a nightmare, and my energy just wasn’t vibing with the place.
Did that mean Santa Cruz was “bad”? Of course not. It just wasn’t right for me in that moment. That’s the thing about living in alignment—it’s about now. Not last year, not what you should like, not what looks good on Instagram. Now.Your frequency. Your resonance. Your truth.
Once I dropped the expectations and started following what I felt—not what I thought—everything changed. I’d see a little dot on the map, a name I’d never heard of, and something would spark inside me.
So I’d go. No reviews, no logic, no plan—just pull over, wander, trust.
And every single time, I ended up somewhere breathtaking. Somewhere that matched my inner rhythm. Places where the locals smiled at you like they knew you, where the air itself felt like a hug, where I felt seen by the land.
That’s when it hit me: The flow isn’t about the plan. It’s about the pulse.
When I got back home, back to the rhythm of dishes and deadlines, I panicked a little.
How do I keep the flow when life wants structure?
But I realized—flow isn’t the absence of structure. It’s the presence of awareness.
I still plan. I still show up. But I’ve learned to listen deeper. If my body says “pause,” I pause. If something unexpected arises and it feels like a sacred detour, I follow it. I don’t punish myself for not sticking to the schedule—I trust there’s a reason. Even if I don’t see it yet.
So here’s the alchemical truth I’m living into:
When we stop living for what we think we’re supposed to do, and start honoring what feels alive in us—we create magic. Even in the mundane.
Trusting the unknown isn’t always easy. It can stir up fear, resistance, even guilt. But the more you say yes to what resonates (even when it makes no sense), the more the universe says yes back.
Where in your life are you choosing based on someone else’s preferences or expectations?
What would shift if you started choosing based on how something feels right now in your body?
What if the next sacred step doesn’t make sense yet—but it’s yours anyway?
